One of the major goals of the Coordination and Support Action “4.UNCAN.eu” is the identification of focused cancer research needs that must be urgently addressed at a supranational level. In order to achieve this ambitious objective, an online Delphi consensus process was organized by partners from the Vall d’Hebron Institute of Oncology (VHIO) in Barcelona and the Spanish Biomedical Cancer Research Network (CIBER-ONC), with the aim to collect inputs from European experts in the areas of prevention, early diagnosis, sensitivity and resistance to therapy, pediatric cancer, cancer and ageing and survivorship. The consultation took place between October 2022 and January 2023 and incorporated the input of more than 300 experts representing most European countries.
Based on the feedback provided by these Expert Working Groups of UNCAN.eu, VHIO, CIBER-ONC and Alliance Against Cancer (Rome, Italy) are organizing two Face-to-Face consensus workshops in Barcelona (prevention, early diagnosis, sensitivity and resistance) and Rome (pediatric cancer, cancer and ageing and survivorship). During these events, experts will get together to discuss the results of the consultation process and have open conversations about funding mechanisms and transversal aspects related to innovation, patient engagement or data generation, among others.
The conclusions of these workshops will generate a European strategic agenda for cancer research that will help guide the European Commission on the design of funding programmes and policies for the upcoming years.
Participation in the workshops is open to the experts who have been involved in the Delphi consensus process, but the conclusions will be made available on this website at a later date.
