The UNCAN.eu workshop “Constructing a European Federated Cancer Research Data Hub” took place at the DKFZ on 28 February and 1 March.
UNCAN.eu was initiated within the framework of the EU Mission on Cancer with the overall goal of developing a unique digital platform through which researchers from around the world can access and use high-quality research data. One of the main tasks of UNCAN.eu is to find the best partners among European data initiatives and infrastructures to build a European federated cancer research data platform. The workshop brought together about 60 European experts representing leading cancer centers and various cancer and data initiatives, and provided a good opportunity to exchange ideas and discuss future approaches to overcome existing hurdles and develop ideas on how to build a federated European cancer research data platform that will enable breakthroughs in understanding the initiation, development, and spread of cancer, providing a basis for saving many lives in Europe.
